Using non-judgement as a relationship and intimacy tool.
  • Why implies judgement. Judgement of all kinds (judging "good" or "bad") separates us from feeling the love that is always there.
"What" questions take a little more effort to formulate for most people. The added benefit is when we use "what", we are more likely to ask what we really want to know.
  • With this one tip, I have seen:

Domestic duty sharing increase.
Emotional labor sharing increase.
Intimacy increase.
Self esteem increase for both partners.
Resentment decrease.
Feelings of being unfulfilled decrease.

Ask for what you want plainly and directly.

When we tip-toe around things we want in relationship (to try and be nice and unassuming), we make it seem like we are manipulating our partner.

Be honest.
Be upfront.
Ask for what you want.
  • Some say "you just put up with some things"
Others "just focus on the good stuff"
Others still "it's just hard work"
I don't know about you, but all three of those sound pretty unsatisfying.
People who learn how to Love Purposely learn to free themselves from judgement through the use of gratitude and other skills.
They can experience those things in their partner others would experience as things to put up with, bad, or hard work and instead see another perfectly imperfect person who has chosen to be human with them in a uniquely vulnerable way - a gift.
They choose each other every day...
That's intimacy. ❤

  • So much of our relationships with others can seem completely ridiculous. Our desire to know another person who has a complete perceptual illusion of this world that is different from our own can bring up confusion, doubt, disagreements and other challenges.

When we allow our partners their own perception, we grow in relationship because there are always different ways to look at something. It is in sharing these differences, not the similarities, that our world becomes bigger, allowing more space for love.

Today, look for those gifts in your partner. They're never-ending.

What does she see when she sees the lawn newly mowed?
What does he see when the kids are outside playing?
What is your partner's experience in the moment?

How would this practice change disagreements?

A vast never-ending sharing of thoughts and experiences are ahead of you two. Hold each other and realize there never has to be an end to how you make the other's world bigger, more interesting, and more beautiful.
